Robert read law at Bristol University and was admitted as a solicitor in 1970. Very experienced in all kinds of disputes, commercial or property, partnership or shareholder, he has taken several cases to the House of Lords.

Robert became a partner in 1971 when he established Hart Brown's civil litigation department, now based at Resolution House, Guildford. He was deputy district judge in the county and high courts for 12 years until 2001.

In 2001 he was elected to be one of the firm's joint Managing Partners and resigned as Deputy District Judge to concentrate on his new role. He is acknowledged as having played a significant part in focusing the firm in order to secure the firm’s continuing success. On retiring from full-time work in 2006 he also resigned as Managing Partner. He now focuses on management of the firm and constantly improving the quality of the service the firm provides to clients.

Robert lives in Albury near Guildford and is a Trustee of the Albury Trust (a local charity seeking to enhance the environment for the benefit of the local community). He is a member of the Pyramus and Thisbe Club, an association of professionals who specialise in party wall matters. In his spare time, Robert enjoys squash, badminton, walking, swimming, Scottish Country dancing and travel.
